SALAZAR SLYTHERIN
…is an allegorical personification of Satan. The similarities are significant,
including his close relationship to Godric Gryffindor initially then his falling
out and away later. He lived in the bowels of Hogwarts and his alter ego
was the serpent or basilisk. He was Godric Gryffindor’s right hand wizard
in the beginning when Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded yet
soon became disillusioned (not by the charm) and left, not without leaving his
mark forever carved into the walls of the school however. Slytherin House
was founded on the importance of ambition and the purity of a witch or wizard’s
blood. Apparently only the greenest of bluebloods were good enough for
Slytherin. Yet over the centuries I’m sure there were many muggle born and
half-blood witches and wizards the Sorting Hat put into Slytherin, Tom Riddle
the most noted and notorious, who just also happened to be his heir. The
Sorting Hat also considered putting Harry in Slytherin because Harry's scar
binds him to Voldemort.
SEAMUS FINNEGAN
Seamus is one of Harry's roommates at Hogwarts. He's Irish and his mother is a
witch. His father is a muggle. Seamus is half-blood... Could he be the HBP?
‘Fraid not. That title belongs to another

Something else about Seamus (which is similar to shame us)
and he should be ashamed because he believed the nasty rumors about Harry that
the Daily Prophet, Rita Skeeter, and Cornelius Fudge were spreading. But I
think he's finally figured out the truth. Good for him!
Is Snape a Vampire?
Harry thinks he’s never met a vampire, but in PoA he thinks that Sirius’s looks
fit the bill. If he thought a little harder he might also use the same
description for Snape. One thing I can say about the Potions teacher is that
Harry and I share the same opinion of him. He could do with a Cheering Charm.
Vampires have the ability to control people with their minds. Remember all
those old Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee “Dracula” movies? Snape is an
accomplished Legilimency expert. We know this. By the way, bats have
incredible sonar abilities which allow them to basically see/sense anything and
everything surrounding them, even in the pitch blackness of a cave at midnight.
Occlumency is sorta like having amazing sonar sensory abilities… so it makes
sense that Snape would be such an expert.
How did Snape spy on Voldemort that night in the graveyard after Harry came back
via the portkey in GoF? Did he turn into a bat and fly? Does he drink a potion
so that he can be out in the light? Or is he only half-vampire, a half-blood,
and so is not affected by all the vampire rules? Does he use Legilimency? I
believe I can safely say that he used his Bat Patronis to send messages to and
receive messages the Dark Lord.
What is the reason Dumbledore trusts Snape? Jo has said that he Snape convinced
Dumbledore that he didn’t wish the Potters to die and since he is the one who
carried the partial prophecy message channeled by Tralawney to Voldemort, he
felt somewhat responsible for their deaths. Well, I find this a hard nut to
swallow, especially after all happened in HBP… but there you go. If only I
could dive into his pensieve or be better at Occlumency!
Dumbledore may trust Snape with everything else, but he has continued to hold
out when it comes to giving Snape a shot at teaching Defense Against the Dark
Arts… until… Slughorn’s arrival. (HBP) Does this mean that Snape’s teaching
days are numbered, based on the previous short-lived careers of the other DADA
teachers?
Snape favors Draco
Malfoy in class. Is this just because Draco is a Slytherin? Or is Snape faking
his favoritism? How could Snape like these people who are faithful to Voldemort
when he himself has sworn himself to Dumbledore? I’m wondering because since he
is loyal to Dumbledore and anti-Voldemort he shouldn't really like the Malfoys
-- any of them. But then, I’m still not convinced he was loyal to Dumbledore…
even at the end of HBP, or maybe I should say, especially at the end of HBP.
And how does Lucius really feel about Severus? After all, Snape left the Death
Eaters and Lucius didn’t. It's all very curious and secretive. When Snape
didn't show up at the Death Eater summoning in the graveyard in GoF, I can
assume that every one thought Voldemort was referring to Barty Croutch Jr., but
perhaps Snape has always been the real devoted servant at Hogwarts.
Will Harry and Snape reconcile? Is Leprechaun gold real and everlasting? There
was a comment in GoF that the likelihood of Snape letting his potions students
play games during class was as unlikely to ever happen as Snape adopting Harry.
So probably NEVER. But if we ever do see Snape letting thee class goof off and
not passing out detentions or taking away points then we’d better take a closer
look at the second part of the comparison. I really think it’s a million to one
long shot that Snape would ever be Harry’s adopted father, godfather, or any
other paternal-type authority figure. Still, perhaps they will briefly put
their personal differences on the potions back burner and have a meeting of the
minds.
Since Snape was a Death Eater, he would know that Voldemort was looking for the
Potters. Peter Pettigrew was the Potter’s secret keeper so Snape was probably
aware of when Wormtail told Voldemort he could deliver him the Potters.
According to Dumbledore, Snape did not want the Potters to die, although I
rather doubt this, but nevertheless, it was he who went to Dumbledore and told
him that he knew that Voldemort had found out where Lily and James were thereby
becoming a spy for Dumbledore and receiving his trust, and in his mind making an
attempt to repay the life dept he owed James. Even though Snape owed this
debt, he really wouldn’t have cared if James was killed. But remember,
Voldemort even said he didn’t need to kill Lily. I can’t picture Voldemort
sparring anybody, but so far that’s the way it is written.
And speaking of saving lives and repaying debts, in PS/SS Snape, in the hope of
once and for all repaying the life debt he owed James Potter, Snape tries to
save Harry's life by chanting a counter-curse to Quirrell's curse during the
Quidditch match. Harry is saved but not because of Snape. Hermione's little
magical fire caused both Snape and Quirrell to be interrupted so neither could
finish what they started. The dept is still unrepaid and Snape's hatred for
Harry is doubled. There are several times when Snape begrudgingly aids Harry
but he never actually saves Harry's life. Oh there are times like when he goes
to the Shrieking Shack in PoA or after the Tri-Wizard Tournament in GoF but I
don't think these really get full marks for a single-handed rescue. So that
leaves us wondering if Snape will, at a later date, really save Harry. It could
happen… (eyes roll).
Is he a half-blood? Yes. This is revealed in HBP. His mother was Eileen
Prince, a witch who married a muggle. Oh woe is Snape. Nevertheless, baby
Snape took after his mother in his excellent potion making skills and, perhaps
she was an expert Occlumence too. Regardless, now that the bat’s out of the
bag, so to speak, and Snape has high-tailed it with Draco in tow to Voldemort,
only time will tell where his true loyalties lie.
Sirius
is the Dog Star is the Orion constellation. There are really two Sirius
stars, the second one is known as
the pup. Double meanings on double meanings! Sirius has two
personas, one as a man and the other as a dog.
Harry is Sirius’s godson. Does this mean that when Sirius is a dog, Harry
is his pup?
Dogs are said to be a man’s best friend and Sirius was James Potter’s best
friend, loyal to the end.
Was Sirius in Slytherin like Snape? It’s obvious that most of his family
had been Slytherins. Number 12 Grimmauld Place is full of serpentine
décor. Or was Sirius the ‘white’ sheep in the Black family and was in one
of the other Hogwarts houses? I’ve only assumed he was in Gryffindor.
Was he really?
In school Sirius wasn’t serious at all. He was quite the jokester.
Snape didn’t find his jokes amusing, however, as we know from the Potions
professor's memories in OotP.
Did Sirius have a girlfriend? It seems that James was the only one in this
crowd who did… Lily.
Sirius
fell through the veil of death in Order of the Phoenix. But was he dead?
We don’t know the color that emitted from Bellatrix’s wand so we don’t know what
curse she threw at him. We know the jet of sparks just before the last had
been red… not green so not fatal. So if she didn’t use the Avada Kedavra curse
when Sirius fell through the veil he could be still alive. Can he come
back? No idea really, but Hermione did say something interesting in an
earlier chapter of OotP that when Voldemort publicly reveals himself then Sirius
will be free. She was at the time referring to the fact that Sirius would
be exonerated from the crimes he was accused of and sent to Azkaban for.
Nevertheless, we could take this a step beyond and say that now that the world
knows the Dark Lord is back there may be a way to bring Sirius back from the
dark too.
KNOWN:
Argus Filch. We first learn about Squibs with Harry when he discovers Mr. Filch
is taking a correspondence course for unmagical wizards in CoS.
Mrs. Arabella Figg. Harry’s nutty neighbor down the way who has a load of cats
and wears house slippers everywhere, even to Harry’s hearing in OotP.
HMMM? COULD BE?
Petunia Dursley – read section on Petunia under DURSLEY FAMILY for more
information. FYI: She's not a squib according to J.K.R.
Dudley Dursley – When Harry and Dudley were attacked by the Dementors in OotP,
Dudley closed his eyes and covered them with his hands so he wouldn’t have seen
the Dementors even if he could. Remember at Harry’s hearing, Fudge asked Mrs.
Figg, a Squib, if Squibs can see Dementors and she answered a definite yes.
(According to a entry on Jo’s website, she states that Mrs. Figg could not see
the Dementors but recognized they were they because she felt them.) Dudley also
describes to his parents those same desolate feelings. And one final point to
consider, Fudge asserts to Mrs. Figg that the ministry would have known if she
was a witch living in Little Whinging because they have a record of all magical
persons and where they live… but Squibs are apparently not on the regular list.
Could that mean that other Squibs are also missing from that “A” list? And is
being born a Squib a genetic defect that comes down through the bloodline? If
Dudley is a Squib, did he inherit it from his mother? (Of course, I could be
squibbling nonsense. We'll have to wait and see.)
STAN SHUNPIKE
Poor Stan, the Knight Bus Conductor. He likes to tell tall tells
like the boy who cried wolf. He should have known better because in desperate
times even the most innocent fib has a stinging rebound. As of HBP, Stan won’t
be conducting on the Knight Bus or any bus because he is lost his dramatic
license and is paying for it by doing time in Azkaban. But let’s get real.
Stan Shunpike could no more be a Death Eater than could Uncle Vernon be a
wizard! I hope Harry can help Stan out… out of Azkaban. I’m sure he will if he
can.
